Senior Systems Engineer - Laser-based systems

Location: Oxfordshire

£55k-£70k (dep on exp)


A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join a leading high-technology R&D organisation specialising in advanced bespoke laser based systems.


This role is ideal for a commercially aware systems engineer with strong technical depth, who enjoys leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects from concept through to delivery. You will play a key role in the definition, design, integration, and validation of bespoke, high-precision laser systems used across cutting-edge industrial and research applications globally.


You will be joining a highly skilled engineering team working with state-of-the-art laser technology in a company known for innovation and technical excellence. The role – Senior Systems Engineer

  • Act as the technical bridge between engineering, sales, and customers
  • Support commercial activities including technical proposals, system costing, and tender responses
  • Lead system integration and validation, ensuring performance, reliability and compliance
  • Capture and manage customer requirements, translating them into clear technical specifications
  • Perform system modelling, trade-off analysis, and optimisation
  • Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and drive root-cause analysis
  • Contribute to new product development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, optical, electrical, software)


Requirements – Senior Systems Engineer

  • Degree in Engineering or Physics (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Optical or similar)
  • Strong experience in systems engineering and integration of complex equipment
  • Hands-on experience with laser systems.
  • Solid understanding of: System architecture and system-level design, Optics and laser-material interactions and motion systems and automation/control systems
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams and with customers
  • Commercial awareness and willingness to support sales / business development activities
